Most people understand that Asana (The posture of yoga) is a kind of exercise. Some even perform Asana in an aerobics approach with the heartbeat of over 120 times per minute in 30 minutes time and think that they had done yoga already.

When looking at an old original yoga book, it is clearly stated that Asana should be done with peace, relax and powerless manner. So what is the positive effect of practicing Asana?

It is necessary for those who have interest in yoga to understand the nature of Asana: to realize the accuracy of practicing it and gain most of the benefit to yourself.

Flexible spine

We can see it clearly that Asana is the movement of spine into many directions which are:

Back bend
Forward bend
Spinal twist
Side bend

When human move their spine into many directions everyday, they will get flexible spine which mean their backbone works normally.

One important thing about backbone is the nervous system. Backbone is a key factor for nervous system to work normally. If you take good care of your spine, it also means that you are taking good care your nervous system.

Blood circulation that works normally by using less energy

When you practice Asana, you can feel that your blood is circulating. Sometimes, you experience blood congestion until you start feeling the pulse of that point. In some position, you may feel warm but other position may immediately numb you because of the blood circulation system.

Then, we do Asana alternate with break. During the break, you will feel your blood circulating from your previous Asana position. Asana helps stimulate blood circulation to work in every part of the body so Asana is not inferior to Aerobics. The difference is exercising blood will circulate in every part of your body but Asana will go to specific area such as stomach, chest and head; not to your leg or arm muscle. We can say that Asana is useful for blood circulation system becuase it uses less energy and the heart will not work hard.

Meanwhile, Asana doesn’t use a lot of muscle so there is no Lactic Acid which causes sore or pain after. With this nature, Asana allows many people from different gender or age to perform yoga because aerobics needs strong and healthy body.

One important thing that we found out about Asana is that its store of energy not overdo like aerobics. After you have completed Asana, you will feel fresh and ready for another activity in your daily life not like aerobics where you will feel tired and need rest after.
